Dane Swan
History
Early Life
Dane Swan was born March 3rd 1872 from a French mother and African father in the town of La Charité-sur-Loire, France. Dane was born into poverty while his parents originally lived in France. Both of his parents had plans of moving to America to start anew as their small town was not sustainable to live in as they were trying to take care of him. As they garner up enough money to travel. At the age of 4 Dane and his parents had move to New York City.
At the age of 12 Dane was going to school in the lower Manhattan area and his parents were working at two different places. His mother was a seamstress and father was a man who dealt with the stocks of food meant to be distributed to the local stores in the city. Eventually over time their jobs had started to gain traction as they attempted to save up money and create a new venture that could be deemed useful. Dane's parents eventually created a local business' that was 2 floors tall. On top was where you could get your clothes tailored and done if you needed it or purchase already made clothes made by Dane's mother. Or you could get goods in terms of food and get in talks of getting food supplies for your store by Dane's Father.
Dane's life was starting to change as his parents started to gain a lot of popularity from their businesses and eventually opened up a department store named Swan & Co. This would be the place to get all your needs in terms for clothing, goods for food and even other business ventures and advice as the local people needed help with their businesses to grow too.
Over time at the age of 17 Dane's parents parents became incredibly wealthy and their societal status completely changed in over a couple of years. The Swan Family had created an empire spanning all over Manhattan. As with wealth over time problems started to occur that would soon put Dane's family to risk. His father started to gamble his wealth at underground gambling tables all across Manhattan. Constantly taking out huge loans from a local loan company associated with Swan & Co to gamble money and not to waste the fortune that him and his wife had accumulated over a span of 5 years growing their business'. In exchange Dane's father helped to bring more customers to the loan business as a mutual agreement in partnership with the company.
Due to Dane's father's rampant gambling addiction and reckless behavior of taking out loans from the loan company. The owners secretly planned on dealing with their business partners heedless behavior in another way. They came up with a diabolical plan of wanting to exit the contract they made with Dane's father by some form of "accidental death" to occur to this null and void the contract. Dane and his family we're going to see a local theatre play in lower Manhattan. During this time local street gangs and thugs were causing trouble around the local theatre making it difficult. But due to Swan & Co's success in New York. They managed to recontrol and lower the crime that was happening in that area by hiring security for the theatre. During this time as well Dane had a girlfriend by the name of Bella that he also brought with him to the theatre. This was also Dane's first true love.
After the play concluded and everyone started leaving an unknown man appeared from the shadowed alleyway next to the theatre and attempted to kill Dane's father. But due to the messy nature of the man's attempt. His bullet ended up hitting Dane's girlfriend Bella accidentally. As the crowd ran into chaos trying to get away from the gunshot to safety. The man runs back into the alleyway and Dane is covered by his father and mother trying to protect him when he sees Bella bleeding to death in front of him. He screamed as he called for help but much later the police came. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A two years later at age 19 Dane was working alongside his family's business and occasionally checked out Manhattan and New York City as they expanded further. One day as Dane decided to return home he arrives to his wealthy and established family mansion with tons of people across the street and police surrounding his house. As he arrived at the front gate he mentions to the officer that he's the son of the established Swan Family. The Officer informs Dane that as he was away there was a attempted robbery of the mansion and that his parents were shot dead and murdered by unknown assailants whom got into the house and stole personal possessions before exiting in a hurry.
Swan as heart broken and in shock as he was had comprehended that eventually something like this would happen as he had gotten older and started to learn more about the family business and his father's gambling addiction thankfully he wasn't even home that day. Swan eventually had the situation investigated by the local police to find that the description of the assailants whom had robbed his house and murdered his parents was due to a person they worked with revealing that had "done a robbery" from a "wealthy family". As they were brought in and investigated further after being detained they revealed they were associated with the same local loan company that was associated with Swan & Co.
From there all evidence had pointed to the same business owners whom had conspired to murder Dane's father to get out of their contact with him and the company. They had hired street thugs at the time that knew the area well when there was going to be a play and that Dane's father was going to be there too. But since the thugs attempted to plan to murder his father when they left they ended up shooting the wrong person. Returning back to the owner's to notify them. 2 years later after things calmed down and the incident had went unsolved. The loan business owners had planned to hit their mansion so as to not make any mistakes this time around. They hired the same local thugs that were there that one faithful day and to "finish the job". The loan business owners alongside with the street thugs involved and their entire gang was conspired to murder. And spent time in New York's Penitentiary.
Years later Swan had temporarily transferred the Swan & Co business to other family members that were trusted enough to keep the business afloat. Dane decided to travel far away from New York to the crossing to start over again and with this time he seen a interest in wanting to protect the ones he loves as he felt hopeless after his first love Bella was murdered in front of him. So he joined up with the local Crossing Sheriff's Department and thus begins the story of Dane Swan.
Events in Saint's Crossing
The Battle Of Fort Mercer
This was a event that took place at Fort Mercer while the SCSD was trying to apprehend "El Jefe" The second leader of the Del Lobos. The entire standoff between the law and del lobos took at total of 2 hours as Swan and the other law had been trying to pick them off one by one from a distance before staring them out and then taking siege to the Fort. Eventually "El Jefe" escapes while they capture one of their lackies after the shootout.
Swan's Marriage
The Day that Dane Swan get's Married to Itukala Wasicu.
Swan's Divorce
Swan was approached by Itukala while he was in Valentine and pulled him aside. Admitting to Adultery during the time they were together and admitted to having a affair with well known criminal and Moonshine King PiP. Swan was emotionally and mentally upset as he wanted to know answers relating to how long this was going on and also why this was happening in general. Over time Swan's mental started to deteriorate. This was beginning of the fall for everything.
Swan's First Suspension From SCSD
Swan had been suspended for the first time due to his mental state and the constant concern from fellow collogues and peers working with him about all the odd wording and actions he'd been doing since he had found out about the affair happening in his marriage.
The Spirit Walk
Swan decided to go to Wapiti leader Wachugue in an attempt to help him forget and rid of all these terrible events happening so that he could safely return back to his job and continue working as a sheriff.
The Tumbleweed Del Lobo Incident
The Tumbleweed Del Lobos Incident had started as a simple arrest and capture job. Find The Del Lobos then proceed to arrest them as they were wanted by the law and currently involved at the time in a war with Jack Kettleman and others gangs. Swan had came across at the time Del Lobos leader "La Nina". In a attempt to take leadership and complete the job he tried to make a blood deal with La Nina properly to turn her and her group in but unfortunately had made a deal for the law not to temper and roam New Austin which he then refused. He had started a gunfight in retaliation and also to push forward not to let them leave under any circumstances. Overtime his peers were getting shot one after the other as Swan tried his best to survive and take them down to arrest them. Eventually he was the only one left and ran into one of the Del Lobos trying to capture a hostage. They talked about properly letting the Del Lobos leave as they were injured and the the law was injured as well too. In the end Swan decided it was best and helped to get his people back in good shape. Oddly enough he'd earn the respect of their gang as he was shown to be just as ruthless and vicious as they were. But this was not the end.>/p>
The Lagras Del Lobo Incident AKA "The Infamous Swan Scenario"
The Lagras Del Lobo Incident occurred during Dane's second time being reinstated as a Sheriff after his first removal by Deputy Marshal Baker. The Del Lobos appeared in Saint Denis after a break from a long war with Jack Kettleman's gang that was taking place out in New Austin. The Del Lobos had appeared to criticize Dane's group of deputies as they were "making it difficult" for them to live out in New Austin. As Dane had returned after being reinstated after getting his badge removed due to his bad mental state after his divorce. His mental state was taking a deeper toll due to the events of The Tumbleweed Del Lobo Incident a year prior. He started to lose trust of his fellow deputies as a sheriff and at the same time it seemed like to his collogues that his mental state wasn't getting any better.
After the argument between both the Del Lobos and Dane. They proceeded to leave then waited for Dane to pop out of the Saint Denis Office. From there The Del Lobos had kidnapped Dane alongside his deputy to retreat out into the swamps of Lagras. From there The leader of the Del Lobos Javier and the rest of his crew go to an abandoned house near the river. From there Javier tries to manipulate and steer the reasons to Dane's current frustration with his purpose and his collogues as "not understanding the full potential to whom he really is". From here Javier successfully gets into Dane's head manipulating him in a confused mix of rage and frustration to gun down a deputy that was fresh to the department in cold blood as a decision between the deputy or his life to be taken.
After this happened Swan was seen emotionally broken and shocked as he carried his now shot and injured deputy out into the swamps of Lagras as Javier tells him "You're free, you're a Del Lobo now". Charlie Branch and others meet him in the mist of lagaras and Dane tells them to take the deputies body and go to Saint Denis for medical support. As they do that Dane then escapes to run and hide knowing he had broke his own moral code and broke his oath to the Department. He was later found in the basement of the Rhodes gunsmith hiding. Where he admitted Sheriff Lewis to attempted murder of the deputy. He mentioned to her even though did it against his will he also did half ill intent of hurting him out of frustration cause of his current standing in the department.
Permanent Suspension From SCSD
From the recent events of the Lagras Del Lobo incident above. Swan was found in the basement of the Rhodes gunsmith store distraught and fearful of what would happen to him after the decisions he decided to make. Sheriff Lewis had found Swan in such a state where she tried to comfort and help him to relax and describe the events before he arrived there. After the discussion Swan had been emotionally and mentally broken from what had happened and mentioned that while he did what he did in a form of survival against his will he also did so in ill will. This was due to Swan losing the trust of his collogues and peers. Swan had begged Lewis to take him in and arrest him as to not further damage the image of the SCSD for allowing this to happen. That day he was charged with attempted murder and also charged with half of a corruption charge. The first of it's kind.
After the time that he had spent in a jail cell in Rhodes and was released over a couple of weeks. He went out west to Armadillo and read a telegram that he'd received from Sheriff Lewis. The Title "Permanent Suspension From SCSD. The Letter described that he'd be permanently losing his badge as he'd become a risk for the department and due to his previous behavior. It was rather understandable to Swan but it was set in stone this time.
The Guarma Arc
Swan had arrived at Gaurma. In search of a once ex Senior Deputy Riggs. His search was to exact revenge for the death of Boyd Banks a mentor of Swan's. As he was searching he came across a infamous and well known criminal in the crossing named Jack Kettleman. He described to jack Kettleman why he was around which was a mistake. Kettleman reminded Swan that Riggs had lost everything and for him to hunt her down and murder her wouldn't change much of anything. This was the first time Jack Kettleman actually convinced Swan to not do something foolish knowing it wouldn't make a difference and only lead to his death in the end
Over time Swan had gotten into contact with at the time Guarma overseer "El captain". He asked to see if he'd hire Swan as a hand to help improve the Island and known for his battle tactics and expertise also put his skills to use once more again. El captain accepted him and made him one of the 3 bounty hunters set to deal with tasks within the island and the crossing alongside Fang, and Lockjaw Jim. Eventually over time they'd go on a mission to hunt someone but int the end get beat to chase by a older woman on the island called Flo. It was a humbling experience but rather worth more seeing that the situation was settled quickly.
Disappearance and Departure
Swan decided to leave a heartfelt letter on Guarma telling anybody who came across it that he'd depart and return back home to New York City as it was time to walk away and say goodbye to the crossing. He was forever thankful to all the people he'd cross paths with and wanted to say thank you for all the lovely memories and things he had done with everyone. He'd also leave behind a known heirloom of a engraved Litchfield Rifle named "The Seventh Circle" a reference from Dante's Inferno and reference to the Seventh Circle of hell which is violence a common theme through his entire story. It'd had been left on the island so that anyone that came across the gun could be able to learn the story and legacy left by a simple yet broken man trying to grieve and build himself back up to protect others.
Character
Personality
Swan has always been the type to use his words wisely and carefully when dealing with situations. This makes the most sense in terms of his understanding of business but when it comes to tense situations but he always uses his wit before he uses his iron.
Appearance
Swan's appearance consists of his infamous sideburns and mustache combo alongside with a scar on the top left of his forehead that was given to him by Sheriff Gertrude Nelson after some law training. He tends to be dressed more fancily like alongside with his usual bowler hat to match.
Relationships
Dane was married to and had a relationship with Itukala Wasicu. They had gotten married a couple of years after they dated. They had originally met due to their occupation which was being part of the Saint's Crossing Sherriff's Department. They called it official after a dating action had happened in Blackwater. A couple of years after their marriage Itukala had admitted to adultery and had been secretly having a relationship with a well known criminal apart of the Kettleman Gang called PiP. Eventually they seperated but have tended to be on good terms long after the situation happened.
Trivia
- Swan had created the Detectives division for the Saint's Crossing Sheriff's Department for his love of investigations and solving crimes during his time as a deputy.
- Swan had created the Hounds division for the Saint's Crossing Sherriff's Department in response to the death of Sheriff Carter and rampant crimes committed between the Del Lobos and Jack Kettleman gang.
- Swan's favorite drink of choice is Cognac.
- The Reason why Swan dresses incredibly sharp and nice is due to his past affiliation with wealth coming from his family's company Swan & Co and maintain a image.
- Majority of outfits Swan's dressed up in have been tailored and made by his mother's seamstresses that are apart of Swan & Co.
