Guinevere Wilde
Gwen Wilde is a Sheriff of Saints Crossing.
History
Early Life
Her parents, Katherine and Gordon were both police officers in Scotland. Her father had always wanted a boy, a desire that only became more apparent with time. When Katherine's hard work was noticed she was asked to transfer to London's Scotland Yard to work on some complex cases. This infuriated Gordon. The night before she was due to leave for her preliminary trip, Gordon infused himself with alcohol and began an argument that once again escalated to violence. Gwen, locked in her room, watched the scene unfold from the keyhole. Gordon, embarassed by his wife outranking him, drunk and feeling humiliated, assaulted her violently until she succumbed to her injuries. He left the house, followed by Gwen, and was not seen again. Gwen was fostered for a time while she finished school, then joined the police force in Edinburgh before moving down to London to work at Scotland Yard, as her mother should have done. After 14 long years of service, she finally decided to transfer to Saints Crossing, following in the footsteps of her close friend McGregor.

Character
Personality
Endlessly plagued by deep desires towards satisfying curiosities involving violence, Gwen is forced to be disciplined, maintaining self-control to keep a check on her impulses. She doggedly pursues maintenance of the department and the good folk within it, believing the work of the law to be necessary in stopping people 'like her'. She believes herself to be a terrible person and holds people at arms length to avoid dealing with the aftermath of people becoming disappointed and disillusioned in her once they get to know her. Driven by desire to finish the work her mother started, she finds that desire at odds with her spinning moral compass and her knowledge that her mother never harboured the violent thoughts she tends towards. She is known to be blunt, often making off-colour remarks laughed off as jokes, but has learned to fit in by mimicking others. She takes deep pride in her self-control and the work she has contributed for the department, hoping it may one day balance the scales she feels her soul weighing down.
Appearance
Blonde hair, tied back and out of the way. Gwen has severe features; sharp cheekbones and a straight nose, a keen blue eye and a smattering of freckles. Her left eye is missing and face scarred following an altercation with the North West Gang, after she killed Anders Bjornson and Kade Baxter. She often wears a flatcap.
Relationships
Gwen does not seek romantic relationships, or even close personal relationships, other than with McGregor due to their historical work together in the UK.
Trivia
- Gwen transferred in as a Deputy in March 1902.
- Thanks to a large wound caused by an Elephant rifle wielded by the Box Gang, Gwen lost her left kidney, part of her intestine, stomach and part of left lung in April 1904. She continues to heavily smoke in spite of this.
- Smoking is Gwen's only vice. She chooses to avoid alcohol, drugs and any painkillers in order to keep a 'clear' head and maintain self-control, but has been known to experience lapses of judgement when caught off guard by pain.
