Persephone Sacdecash
The Dowager Persephone Sacdecash, formerly Duchess Persephone Feising of Devonshire is an aristocrat who has settled in the Crossing while she awaits the arrival of inheritance from her late husband the Duke of Devonshire.
History
Early Life
Much of Persephone's early life is shrouded in mystery, though it is known that she was born to a Romanian mother and German father. Persephone spent much of her childhood in Eastern Europe before her family moved to England.
Having spent a number of years in London, Percy would eventually meet the wealthy yet sickly Duke of Devonshire and the two would be married with Percy taking on the title of Duchess of Devonshire.
Events in Saint's Crossing
The Duke and Duchess first travelled to the Crossing in late 1900. Despite the Duke's clearly waining health, the Duchess would throw herself into the Crossing's high society circles, taking a particular interest in the Théâtre Râleur in Saint Denis. The Duke, a lifelong sufferer from solar urticaria, an extreme sensitivity to the light, would remain largely hidden away during the day while The Duchess pursued her passions. Always a patron of the arts, the Duchess would take it upon herself to organise a performance of Frankenstein at the Théâtre Râleur to much success. With the Duke's health failing the couple would eventually return to England later that year.
While back in Devonshire the Duke's battle with solar urticaria would eventually prove too much and his life would come to an end one morning when according to Persephone, a maid left the curtains open while the Duke lay sickly in bed.
Amidst controversy as to why certain funds had been moved in the time leading up to the late Duke's passing, the now widowed Persephone would become embroiled in a contest with the Duke's remaining family over the will and substantial inheritance.
As more questions began to be raised over the circumstances of the Duke's death, Persephone would leave England and return once more to Saint's Crossing in mid 1902 while she awaited the matter to be cleared up and the arrival of her inheritance.
