Agnes is a geologist for the United States Geological Survey who has recently settled in Saint's Crossing.
History
Early Life
Agnes grew up in Delaware in a well-to-do family with a brother and two other sisters. Her father who was also a geologist of some renown encouraged her passion for the sciences, in particular geology which she would go on to study in university.
Philippines
In 1897 while studying volcanology in the Philippines, Agnes was present for the eruption of Mt Mayon on the island of Luzon. The eruption would kill somewhere in the range of 400 people from the pyroclastic flow. Agnes narrowly escaped the eruption with her life. The harrowing event and the inability of members of the scientific community or the local government to prevent such a tragedy left her deeply disillusioned with the field of volcanology.
At the urging of her father to "Chase the money", she began working for the United States Geological Survey looking for new sources of gems and gold veins, becoming in her own words a "gold hound". In 1901 Agnes took a private contract from the Saint's Crossing Transit Authority and made her way to Saint's Crossing.

Diamonds and Steam
Upon arriving in the Crossing, Agnes took up a room within the Saint's Hotel in Valentine where the odd behavior of the locals both confused and intrigued her. She quickly took to her job and began staking out local sources of gemstones which via Miss Henrietta Callaghan of the Saint's Crossing Transit authority she had been commissioned to seek out, cut, and stamp on behalf of Mineralis & Co.
It would soon transpire that this contract was not as simple as it may have at first seemed. Henrietta urged caution in revealing the nature of her work in the crossing. As the true amount and worth of the gemstones that were being held by the transit authority due for transport by train out of the crossing became evident, Agnes found herself once again in a situation that could put her life in jeopardy.
Henrietta and Agnes formed a friendship and respect for each other over the following weeks. In fact, Henrietta proved to be one of the few friends she would make during her time in the Crossing in those early days. One of the few other acquaintances she would make was with Mr. Charlie Chancer who would become something of a personal carriage driver for her shortly before the date of the train transport was due to commence.
The day of the transport arrived and Agnes was on board holding many of the precious gems when her and the Transit Authority's worst fears came to fruition. Shortly after passing Valentine the train was halted by the Dead End Kids who held Edith Gretchen hostage and forced Agnes and the train employees off the train. Both her and Ed and the crates of gemstones were taken to a nearby hideout where she was threatened with her life and passed out. When she awoke law had surrounded the hideout armed with a Gatling gun and it became transparent that blood would very soon be spilled. To her relief, both she and Ed were released and as they fled the scene the sounds of gunfire echoed over the hills from behind them.
The gems were for the most part recovered and made their way to their previously secretive destination of Paris, bound for a Mr. Frederick Boucheron, a craftsman of great renown in France.
Though deeply shaken by the situation, after much deliberation Agnes decided that she would remain in the crossing for the time being.
